All I know about surfing is from the latest SBC Surf mag...since I got it in the mail I decided I would learn how to surf. One of my friends used to surf in Cali, but that was a long time ago. Are there places in the GTA to surf? What's the best place to go looking for a board, and what would be the ideal board for a beginner?

Cheers!

Im not sure about that general area but i can give you some advice on a board.  Basically youre gonna want something big to start out on.  Like 8 ft or more.  Reason being is because although slow and bluky theyre super easy to stand up on and if youre standing up then youre just having more fun.  So yeah, get a good sized board and keep to smaller waves.  Board doesnt have to be shiny and new, maybe pick something up used and once you get good at it look into the smaller boards if shortboarding is ultimatley what you want to do.

Yeah, I would definitely suggest starting out with a long board.  You can even rent one for a while to see how you catch on, and then rent a shortboard to see if that's what you'd rather do.  I'd suggest doing that before purchasing one, but you could buy a used and do it that way.  Maybe even get a person at the shop you are renting at to give you a lesson just to start you out and get the feel for it.  You can read a lot, and know how to and all, but it's good to have someone there when you're actually trying.  To give you tips, and keep you encouraged :)
